Project overview

Every joint planned before the first tile was fixed.

A complete ensuite renovation with full-height 600 × 1200 porcelain, a frameless level-entry shower and a recessed niche aligned to the grout grid.

The existing room was stripped back to the framing. New substrate boards were installed and checked for flatness before the waterproofing membrane was applied and inspected.

The tile layout was drawn out on every wall so the niche, shower mixer and vanity all landed on balanced cuts, with no slivers at the corners or ceiling line.

Project scope
  • 01Full-height wall tiling
  • 02Level-entry shower floor with falls
  • 03Recessed niche with mitred edges
  • 04Large-format porcelain floor
  • 05Epoxy grout to the wet zone
  • 06Silicone and movement joints

How the work is done

A controlled sequence, not guesswork on the wall.

Every stage is checked before the next begins — the finish is only as good as the work underneath it.

  1. 01

    Strip out and substrate

Removed the old lining, replaced damaged framing and installed new wet-area boards, checked to within 3 mm over 2 m.

  2. 02

    Falls and waterproofing

Screeded the shower floor to falls towards a linear drain, then applied and cured a liquid membrane with reinforced junctions.

  3. 03

    Setting out the grid

Centred the grout grid on the niche and mixer so cuts at the corners and ceiling were matched on both sides.

  4. 04

    Fixing, grout and finish

Back-buttered every panel, used levelling clips for lippage, then finished with epoxy grout and neutral-cure silicone.
