Project overview

Laundries are wet areas too.

A fitted family laundry with a fully waterproofed floor, a tiled upstand around the walls and a splashback behind the butler sink.

A laundry floor can flood when a hose fails, so the whole floor was waterproofed and turned up the walls before tiling.

The floor falls gently towards a waste under the machines.

Project scope
  • 01Waterproofing membrane to the floor
  • 02Tiled upstand around the walls
  • 03Butler sink splashback
  • 04Floor waste with falls
  • 05Appliance bay preparation

How the work is done

A controlled sequence, not guesswork on the wall.

Every stage is checked before the next begins — the finish is only as good as the work underneath it.

  1. 01

    Waterproof the floor

Applied a membrane over the whole floor and turned it 150 mm up the walls.

  2. 02

    Falls to the waste

Graded the floor gently towards a floor waste under the appliance bay.

  3. 03

    Tile the upstand

Tiled a skirting upstand around the room, sealed to the floor with flexible silicone.

  4. 04

    Splashback and finish

Tiled behind the butler sink and sealed every junction to the benchtop.
